trusting his brother, hence rejected the offer. Humayun had asked to lend his
troops which Kamran rejected. The difference between the two brothers could not
be sorted out and Kamran went to Lahor with his troops. Anyhow Humayun managed 40,000 soldiers. In May, 1540 was
fought the Battle of Kanauj. In this battle, the Mughal Artillery did not play
any part as it could not be taken to the front when Sher Khan started the
attack. In the case of Kanauj also, Humayun had not start the attack for full
one month. The Battle of Kanauj was fought and lost. Humayun , became a
fugitive and Sher Khan became the
master of Agra and Delhi.
This battle was fought in 1540. Both sides consolidated their forces. Both the armies met at Kannauj. This battle ended the Mughal Empire. In the battle of Kannauj the Afghan soliders were able to run away the Mughal army. This was a great a confusion for Mughals. Humayun ran away from the battle field. For the next 15 years Humayum lived like a wanderer. By crossing the deserts of Thar, Humayun reached Sind. Here in Sind he lived for only three years . He fell in love, a fifteen years old girl, Hamida. Hamida was a daughter of a sheikh. Hamida gave birth to Akbar.
The Great Historian, Michael Prawdin says that "This was more than a lost battle, this was a total defeat from which no quick recovery was possible. With all his artillery and war equipment in the hands of Sher Shah, Humayun could not even think of defending his capitals or forts. He did not dare to delay in Agra as Sher Shah had immediately despatched a strong detachment in pursuit of him. He avoided entering the town himself and sent Hindal into collect the valuables and the royal family."
